AFP-Colorado Statement on Democrats’ Newest Push to Eliminate TABOR
DENVER, CO — Yesterday, Denver Democrats, led by Rep. Sean Camacho, introduced their newest attempt to eliminate people’s right to vote on tax increases, and this time, politicians are looking to the courts for a helping hand.
Election after election, Democrats have tried to weaken our Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) through Prop CC and HH, failing each time as a majority of Coloradans support the constitutional amendment.
However, Rep. Camacho’s bill would force the General Assembly to sue over the constitutionality of TABOR itself. This issue has already been through the appellate process and goes around Coloradans in an attempt to give more hard-earned tax dollars back to the government.
AFP-Colorado Deputy State Director Brittany Trujillo issued the following statement:
“After years of desperate attempts to end TABOR and the generous tax refunds that come with it, it’s clear Democrats don’t trust Coloradans’ ability to decide tax increases facing our communities. So, they’re resurrecting a decade-old legal challenge to end TABOR and TABOR tax refunds.
“AFP-Colorado intends to use the full weight of its grassroots army to help ensure TABOR remains the law of the land in the Centennial State.”
