2025 Special Session

The call to STOP the 2025 Special Session reflects our commitment to transparent, accountable government that listens to the people of Colorado. Special sessions are often convened with limited notice, leaving little time for meaningful public input or thorough debate on critical issues. This rushed approach can result in policy decisions that fail to reflect the true priorities of Colorado families and businesses. At AFP-CO, we believe that major legislative changes—especially those impacting taxes, spending, and individual freedoms—should be made openly and with full participation from the public, not behind closed doors or in expedited proceedings.

By opposing the 2025 Special Session, we are standing up for responsible governance and a legislative process that values citizen engagement. Special sessions too often serve as vehicles for advancing complicated or controversial policies that might not withstand the scrutiny of a regular session. Our focus is on maintaining the integrity of Colorado’s Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) and ensuring that any potential changes to our tax system or budget are made with direct voter approval, not hastily passed under pressure. Protecting TABOR means defending the principle that Coloradans should have the final say over how their hard-earned dollars are spent.

Ultimately, stopping the 2025 Special Session is about prioritizing the voices of the people over political expediency. AFP-CO will continue to advocate for legislative transparency, public involvement, and fiscal responsibility. We urge lawmakers to respect the established processes that guarantee thoughtful, collaborative policymaking and reject attempts to push through decisions that could have lasting impacts on our state without adequate public review. Together, we can ensure that Colorado’s future is shaped by the will of its citizens, not by rushed government action.
