TABOR

Colorado’s Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) is a cornerstone of fiscal responsibility and government accountability in our state. By requiring voter approval for tax increases and limiting the growth of government revenue, TABOR empowers Coloradans to have the final say over how their hard-earned dollars are spent. Since its implementation in 1993, TABOR has ensured that government lives within its means while still allowing for essential investments in our communities. Nearly 70% of our state budget is now exempt from TABOR, yet our budget has grown to over $50 billion, demonstrating that responsible spending and growth can go hand-in-hand.

Protecting TABOR is about more than just numbers—it’s about prioritizing the needs of Colorado families and businesses. When lawmakers bypass these protections, they divert funds meant for critical services like education and transportation to pet projects, instead of focusing on what matters most to Coloradans. By defending TABOR, we can keep spending in check, demand transparency from our leaders, and ensure that any changes to our tax system are made with the direct consent of the people. Ultimately, safeguarding TABOR means securing a brighter, more accountable future for every Coloradan.
